Pippa Middleton’s Topless Photos May Have Cost her the Lady-in-Waiting Job

It appears that Pippa Middeton’s topless photos may have cost her the job of a lifetime –that of lady-in-waiting for her sister, Princess Kate, according to Hollywood Life .
It was originally reported that Kate Middleton, aka Princess Kate, planned to appoint her sister, Pippa to fill the official position of lady-in-waiting– a sort of royal confidante/personal secretary/ executive assistant.

Now it looks like this will not be the case.

Hollywood Life now reports that Kate has decided to hold off on appointing her sister Pippa, or anyone else, as her lady-in-waiting for the time being, preferring to go it alone on her first official tour with Prince William.

Did Pippa’s Topless Photos Make Kate Change Her Mind

Rumors that Pippa Middleton would be appointed as her sister’s lady-in-waiting first began circulating when Carole and Michael Middleton posted an online help wanted ad to fill a position that sounded suspiciously similar to the position Pippa held in the family business, Party Pieces.

Supposedly this would leave Pippa free to accept the lady-in-waiting job.

On Prince William’s and Princess Kate’s first official tour to Canada and California in a few weeks, there will be no lady-in-waiting to accompany Kate.

The official reason, according to the Daily Mail, is that Kate wants to see how well she can cope without a lady-in-waiting in tow. The spot remains open for now.

But is that really the case?

Others maintain that Kate’s embarrassment over her sister’s topless pictures, is the real reason Pippa won’t be there.

Word is that Pippa’s topless photos caused such a stir that Kate is reluctant to take the risk.

The company, Vivid Entertainment, which produces sex tapes of celebrity mistresses and other high profile women, probably has high hopes that Pippa Middleton will accept their offer to become the next big porn star, now that she’s been passed over for the lady-in-waiting spot.

The Middletons Should Have Kept Their Complaint Low Key

If it’s true that the topless photos of Pippa cost her the lady-in-waiting spot, part of the problem may stem from the way the Middletons handled the situation.

Pippa’s parents may have felt justified in filing a formal complaint about the media’s use of the pictures Pippa and Kate Middleton in their bikinis, but has turned out to be a case of “much ado about nothing.”

Had the Middletons handled the matter quietly and behind the scenes, instead blowing things out of proportion, Pippa’s pictures might have died a natural death.

Now Pippa’s photos are an object of curiosity, and are more widely circulated on the Internet than before.

Were Pippa’s Topless Pictures Really that Bad?

In another instance, “topless” turned out to be “ Pippa wearing a white bikini while on a boat with friends, removing and wringing out her top, revealing a heavily shadowed partial view of the side of one breast.”

That’s what all the fuss and fanfare was about.

If the rumors are true that Pippa Middleton’s not-so-topless pictures cost her the lady-in-waiting job, it’s truly a shame, but her parents must bear some of the blame.

At the outset, there was a gag order in place, and both Mel Gibson and Oksana were told by the presiding judge not to publicly discuss the details of their child custody case.

Oksana Grigorieva repeatedly violated that gag order.

Tiger Woods Will Probably Never Cheat Again - an Infidelity Expert Tells Why

Tiger Woods is unlikely to ever cheat again -- despite the fact that he cheated on Elin Nordegren Woods with multiple mistresses for several years.

Tiger’s Cheating Days Are Over

Tiger’s public apology confirms what I’ve been saying in most of my interviews on this topic for the past 6 to 8 weeks.

Tiger’s cheating days are over. Tiger Woods is one of those serial cheaters, who, after having been caught, and forced to face the consequences of his infidelity, will probably never cheat again.”

My opinion is based on over 16 years of infidelity research, during which time I’ve interviewed and/ or consulted with thousands of cheating men from all walks of life.

Most Cheaters Usually Have More Than One Affair

Several years ago, I came across a study which found that 2/3 of the men who cheated on their mates had more than one affair. 25% of those men had 4 or more affairs.

My own research corresponds with the findings in that study.

I, too, found that a significant number of cheating men do indeed, go on to have other affairs.

However, I was curious about the small minority of cheating men who never cheated again.

What kept these men from cheating over and over again?

My Findings on Why Some Cheaters Never Cheat Again

The determining factor turned out to be this:

Cheaters become repeaters if they don’t suffer any negative consequences as a result of their infidelity.

The more negative consequences a cheater suffered as a direct result of his infidelity, and the greater the magnitude of those negative consequences, the less likely he was to cheat again.

Why Tiger Probably Won’t Cheat Again

The sheer number and magnitude of negative consequences Tiger Woods has suffered because of his cheating, indicates that Tiger is one of those cheating men who will probably never cheat again.

Tiger’s marriage and family are hanging in the balance. His reputation has been ruined. His golf career is hold while he desperately tries to make amends to his wife and get his marriage back on track. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This article lists more than a dozen negative consequences Tiger Woods has experienced, and is still experiencing, as a result of his multiple affairs.

This article also makes a strong argument for why Tiger deserves a second chance.

Much of Tiger Woods’ behavior can be attributed to his sex addiction.

But he’s in therapy now, and is and receiving the very best professional help.

Tiger is a Changed Man

Tiger’s heartfelt public apology shows that he’s strongly committed to turning his life around, saving his marriage, and becoming the kind of man all the people he disappointed, can find it in their hearts to believe in again.

From the things he says he plans to do to make amends, it sounds like he’s on the right track.

Having been forced to take a hard, cold look at the negative consequences of his infidelity, it’s highly doubtful that Tiger will ever cheat again.

Why Everyone Want to Know if Tiger Woods is Addicted to Sex

Is Tiger Woods a sex addict? This question has been in minds of everyone following the Tiger Woods infidelity scandal since sources suggested that he might be addicted to sex.

According to recent reports, Tiger Woods may be the victim of dual addictions – sex addiction, and addiction to two prescription drugs (Vicodin and Ambien), both of which have the side effect of boosting the male sex drive.

Medical Reasons for Tiger’s Behavior?

If Tiger Woods is a true sex addict, then this put his behavior in an entirely different light. It means he has medical reasons for his multiple mistresses and serial infidelity

As an infidelity expert who has been researching infidelity for over 16 years, I’ve interviewed literally thousands of infidelity victims and cheaters of both sexes. I’ve encountered many serial cheaters who use sex addiction as an excuse for their marital misbehavior.

With infidelity currently affecting the majority of all relationships, this Thanksgiving, if you have a faithful mate, you have a lot to be thankful for.

Infidelity is now at epidemic proportions. Faithful mates are in short supply. Infidelity in one form or another (emotional infidelity, internet infidelity, same sex infidelity, workplace infidelity, female infidelity) now affects 80% of all marriages and committed relationships today.

Infidelity Statistics Show Most People Cheat

Consider the following infidelity statistics from several infidelity studies:

55% to 75% of men (married and single) cheat on their mates.

female infidelity has increased 50% in the past 10 years.

45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some point in their marriage

60% of the people who admitted to cheating, said their partner did not know about their affair.

Most cheaters will cover up the obvious signs of infidelity, which means that if you aren’t familiar with the many subtle signs of infidelity, you’ll probably be the last to know.

However, if you know your partner is faithful, you have at least 15 reasons to be thankful. As you can see from the statistics at the beginning of this article, faithful mates are few and far between.

The Steve Phillips - Brooke Hundley infidelity scandal should make other cheating husbands very, very afraid..

ESPN analyst Steve Phillips had a brief affair with Brooke Hundley, a 22-year-old ESPN production assistant.

When Phillips ended their short-lived sexual affair, Hundley proceeded to stalk Phillips’ 16 year old son and harass, Marni Phillips, his wife.

How Brooke Hundley Harassed Steve Phillips’ Family

Brooke Hundley harassed the Phillips family to the point that they feared for their safety and were to file a police report. Scroll down for links to copies of the 3 official police reports made by Marni Phillips, Steve Phillips, and their 16 year old son.

Below are some of the things Brooke Hundley did:

● She behaved irrationally and erratically behavior when Steve Phillips broke off the affair.

● She repeatedly called Phillips home and harassed Phillips’ wife Marni.

● She wrote a graphic letter to Marni Phillips with intimate details about the affair.

● She drove to Phillips home, parked in their driveway and personally placed the letter in their front door.

● When Marni Phillips wife encountered Hundley on the Phillips’ property returning to her car, Hundley backed into a stone column and drove across their lawn.

● She impersonated a classmate of the Phillips’ 16 year old son, contacted him through Facebook, corresponded with him for weeks, pumping him for details about their family, their daily routine and where they lived.

● She obtained detailed information about the kind of vehicles Phillips’ wife and son drove.

● She claimed that she went to the oldest son’s football practice, but was unable to locate him.

David Letterman Breaks Rules of Engagement for Workplace Affairs

When two workmates become romantically or sexually involved, keeping things on a professional level will help minimize many of the problems that workplace romances usually cause.

But by becoming sexually involved with Stephanie Birkitt, Holly Hester, and other female members of his staff, David Letterman broke two of the cardinal rules governing workplace romance.

Rule #1 - Never become romantically (or sexually) involved with a person in your direct chain of command. (In other words – no boss – subordinate relationships)

Rule #2 - Never get involved in a workplace romance if either one of you married or in a committed relationship.

If reports of Letterman having a love nest above his studio are true, then he broke a 3rd cardinal rule as well.

Rule # 3 - Never engage in sex on company property.

Best Course of Action Regarding Workplace Romance

The best course of action to follow when it comes to a workplace romance is not to have one. The risks greatly outweigh the rewards. But workmates who are sexually attracted to each other rarely follow this advice. Interestingly enough, David Letterman actually seems to have adhered very strictly to some of the rules on the list below.

If you’re currently involved in a workplace romance, or tempted to become involved in one, familiarize yourself with the rules of engagement governing office romances and workplace affairs. The guidelines below will help you keep things on a professional level and minimize the damage most workplace romances can cause.

● Never underestimate the power of the office grapevine. Try to keep your office romance a secret, if you can.

● Keep it low key – don’t flaunt the fact that the two of you are romantically involved.

● Avoid public displays of affection – it’s highly unprofessional.

● Don’t gossip about your love life.

● Do not exchange embarrassing or ostentatious flowers, cards or gifts. (Small, discreet, tasteful gifts are okay.)

● Do not allow your office romance to interfere with productivity – yours, your partner’s or your coworkers.

● Do not use company e-mail to send passionate or suggestive love notes to each other.

● Do not leave X-rated voice mails on each other’s phones.

● Don’t show or request favoritism regarding work assignments, raises, promotions or company perks.

● Do not use company funds to entertain your partner.

● Refrain from overt sexual behavior on the job.

● Never engage in sex on company property. (That includes stair wells, supply closets and company parking lots.)

● Have a back-up career plan in case things take a negative turn. Be prepared to find another job.

The Good Wife - Proof That Infidelity is a Spectator Sport

It doesn’t surprise me that The Good Wife is predicted to be this season’s most popular new TV show.

In fact, it only confirms what I’ve been saying for the past few years:

Infidelity has become the new spectator sport.

The Good Wife, with its theme about a cheating politician’s wife, is definitely a TV series whose time has come.

A Recurring, but Popular Theme

Given the popularity of The Good Wife’s subject matter, husband and wife writing team, Robert and Michelle King seem to have come up with a real winner. The show should have widespread appeal.

Inspired by an ever- increasing list of cheating politicians constantly making front page news, this show, staring Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, the cheating politician’s wife, is destined to be a big hit.

The Good Wife is a perfect example of art imitating life. The theme of the show, and the opening scene is one we’ve seen played out many times -- infidelity in the political arena, a cheating politician making a public statement, the cheating politician’s wife standing silently beside him as he apologizes or confesses all.

A Burning Interest in All Things Infidelity

As an infidelity expert frequently called on by the media to comment on high profile infidelity and popular infidelity issues in the news, I can personally attest to the public’s voracious appetite for information of any kind about infidelity, cheating spouses or an extramarital affairs – especially when a politician is involved.

Whenever a politician at any level of the government - local, state, and federal - cheats, or is rumored to be cheating on his wife, the public wants know every detail as the drama unfolds.

The same thing holds true if the cheater is a celebrity, sports figure, entertainer, corporate executive, or someone else in the public eye.

As I said: Infidelity has become a spectator sport.

It’s a recurring theme in most forms of entertainment, including soap operas, TV talk shows, movies, and best-selling novels

Editors, reporters, producers, radio and TV talk show hosts know that adding an infidelity element to the mix, almost guarantees an increase in viewers, listeners, or readers.

That’s why The Good Wife is predicted to be a hit.

Why Infidelity Has Universal Appeal

Infidelity is so widespread now, that unfortunately, most people can relate to it in some way. Everyone has at least one friend, relative, or co-worker who is cheating, or has been cheated on. Many people have been victims of infidelity themselves.

A USA Today/Gallup poll reported that 54% of Americans said they knew someone who had a cheating spouse.

If you factor in the number of unmarried people in committed relationships who are cheating on their mates, that percentage increases to somewhere around 75% - 80%.

If you take an average of the infidelity studies, statistics, surveys and polls from the last 5 to 7 years, it becomes clear that infidelity in one form or another (physical or sexual infidelity, emotional infidelity, online or internet infidelity, female infidelity, same-sex infidelity, workplace infidelity) affects an estimated 80% of all marriages and committed relationships today.

The Good Wife is Worth Watching

Starring Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth, and Christine Baranski, The Good Wife is well worth watching -- if for no other reason than to see how closely art imitates life, and to confirm that infidelity really has become a spectator sport.

William Taylor's "I Cheated" Sign and Revenge

This week, a creative case of revenge in the state of Virginia, has received media attention around the world.

The wife of a man calling himself “William Taylor”, ordered her cheating husband to stand on a busy street with a big sign around his neck that read “I cheated. This is my punishment.”

What She Did vs What She Could Have Done

Considering some of the things other women have done to get revenge on their cheating mates, Taylor is a lucky man. See the article entitled How Betrayed Wives and Other Infidelity Victims Get Revenge on Their Cheating Mates.

Taylor’s wife could have glued his penis to his stomach with Krazy Glue like the 4 women in Wisconsin earlier this month as punishment for his cheating ways.

She could have poured boiling water on his genital area like the New York wife a few weeks ago, whose cheating husband suffered second and third degree burns.

She could have cut off his penis like Lorena Bobbitt did to her husband several years ago.

Taylor may have been embarrassed to stand there with a sign around his neck proclaiming his infidelity for all the world to see, but at least he wasn’t harmed in any way.

The Urge to Seek Revenge

It’s not uncommon for a woman who has been cheated on to experience an overwhelming desire for revenge.

When the shock and disbelief of infidelity wears off, the hurt and anger that follow are usually accompanied by a strong urge to seek revenge.

Some people are able to control this urge. But others feel compelled to even the score.

Harmless Forms of Revenge

Some forms of revenge are relatively harmless:

--- hiding one cufflink from every pair he owns.

--- posting his name, picture and the details of his infidelity on one or more of the websites that allow women to report cheating men

--- spreading rumors that he’s a lousy lover

--- making him stand on a busy street with an “I cheated” sign around his neck.

These things may annoy, embarrass or inconvenience the cheater; but they don’t cause any real harm. And they allow you to feel vindicated, so you can move on with your life.

But some forms of revenge can get you in serious trouble or land you in jail.

If you feel that you absolutely must do something to even the score, avoid doing anything that's illegal, violent, destructive, or criminal to get revenge on your cheating mate.

Legal Ways to Get Revenge

There’s no need to resort to violence or illegal activities to get revenge on a cheater, when there are legal, financial, and non-violent methods of accomplishing the same thing.

As an infidelity expert frequently called on by the media to comment on high profile infidelity and popular infidelity issues in the news, I’d like to comment on a few points from Jenny Sanford’s interview in Vogue magazine about her husband, Mark Sanford’s infidelity.

My comments and observations are based on my 16 years of ongoing infidelity research, which include thousands of consultations and interviews with male and female victims of infidelity, cheaters of both sexes, as well as other professionals in the field.

VOGUE: For the record, Jenny Sanford and most of her friends were as shocked as the rest of America when they learned about the governor’s affair with an Argentinean divorcée. Finding evidence of the affair last January in a stack of papers was, she says, a shock. “It never occurred to me that he would do something like that.

Never underestimate a man’s susceptibility to infidelity. Like many wives, Jenny didn’t think her husband was capable of having an extramarital affair. In fact, in one interview she even commented that she didn’t think he had it in him.

Good marriages are not immune to infidelity, and even happy husbands cheat too.

Three separate infidelity studies published last year in prestigious medical journals confirmed that no marriage is immune to infidelity if the right (or wrong) circumstances come into play. See my Examiner articles entitled Happy Husbands Cheat Too and Why the Wife is Still the Last to Know.

JENNY SANFORD: “Over the course of both pastoral and marriage counseling, it became clear to me that he was just obsessed with going to see this woman. I have learned that these affairs are almost like an addiction to alcohol or pornography. They just can’t break away from them.”

The Sanford affair started out as an innocent friendship, and took 8 years to developed into an emotional affair, which quickly progressed to sexual infidelity. Emotional infidelity just like a drug or alcohol addiction. Once a cheating husband develops a dual emotional/sexual bond with his mistress, like Sanford’s bond to Maria Belen Chapur, he does indeed become obsessed. Jenny Sanford has far more insight into the dynamics of her husband’s affair than their counselors and advisors, who failed to prepare Sanford for the withdrawal symptoms, and the onslaught of emotions he would experience after ending his affair.

VOGUE: Even so, like the rest of America, she and a friend couldn’t resist Googling the woman at the center of the firestorm. “What woman wouldn’t want to know what her husband’s mistress looks like?” asks the friend. (Sanford’s reported verdict: “She’s pretty.”)

Most women have a natural curiosity about the person their husband or boyfriend is cheating with. There’s nothing wrong with this as long as the curiosity doesn’t turn into a morbid obsession.

Another question that lurks in the background of every betrayed wife’s mind is “Will he leave me for her?” For more on this, see the article entitled Will He Leave You for Her?

I also feel that it vitally important for a wife to know certain things about her husband’s mistress, in order to insure the safety and well-being of her family.

Is the mistress violent, or aggressive like Joey Buttafuco’s teenage mistress, Amy Fisher, who shot Joey’s wife, Mary Jo Buttafuoco in the head?

Is she mentally unstable or emotionally fragile like Steve McNair’s mistress Sahel Kazemi, who shot and killed Steve, then turned the gun on herself?

Is she seeking fame or fortune? Does she have ulterior motives? John Edwards’ mistress, Rielle Hunter comes to mind.

Some mistresses will threaten or harass their lover and his family, long after he ends the affair. Will the wife and children need to get an order of protection? Why Sanford Thinks Maria is His Soul Mate

Commenting on the Sanford affair from the standpoint of someone who has been researching infidelity for the past 15 years, ( and as an infidelity expert who is frequently called on by the media to comment infidelity issues in the news), I would like point out the reason South Carolina Gov Mark Sanford thinks his Argentinean mistress, Maria Belen Chapur, is his “soul mate.”

Sanford is convinced that his Argentinean mistress is his “soul mate” because he is in the throes of an extramarital affair in which there is a dual emotional/sexual bond.

Sanford’s behavior, embarrassing as it may be, is typical behavior for a cheating husband who has formed a strong emotional attachment to the person with whom he is having an affair.

Sanford has stated that his affair began as an innocent e-mail exchange between friends. It took 8 years for this friendship to become an emotional affair, then progress to a sexual affair. Sanford is dealing with the mental anguish associated with trying to break an extremely strong emotional bond that took 8 years to form.

Withdrawal Symptoms will Occur

A cheating husband who has become emotionally bonded to his mistress will experience withdrawal symptoms upon ending the affair.

His heart will ache for his mistress.

He will miss her, yearn for her, long to see her.

He will go through a period of depression.

He will be convinced (in his mind) that the mistress was his soul mate, the love of his life.

He will experience misgivings about trying to reconcile with his wife.

He Should Have Been Told What to Expect After Ending His Affair

Sanford's advisors were remiss in not telling him what to expect.

If the cheater is not told beforehand what to expect, he may (like Sanford) exhibit erratic behavior or act in unpredictable ways. This explains Sanford’s secret trip to Argentina, the press conference in which he confessed his affair, and the interview in which he spoke of his mistress as being his soul mate.

The proper way to terminate an extramarital affair is for the cheating husband to immediately sever all ties and have no further contact with the Other Woman. If the cheater is not told beforehand what to expect after he does this ( as apparently Sanford was not), he will give in to the urge to communicate with his mistress, or to see her “just one more time.”

He is also likely to misinterpret his feelings to mean that perhaps he has made a mistake in trying to reconcile with his wife and get his marriage back on track.

A cheating husband should be warned in advance of what to expect. He needs to understand that the intense feelings he is about to experience are a normal part of the grieving process for the loss of an affair. Thus informed, he will be more likely to “tough it out” until his feelings subside. He will be better able to resist the urge to see his mistress again, or his desire to resurrect the affair because he will realize that this is just a phase he is going through.

If Sanford can successfully get past the grieving process, he will realize that the 8- year bond he had with his mistress can in no way surpass the bond he has with his wife of 20 years and the mother of his four sons.

Jenny Sanford Understands

The position Jenny Sanford has taken shows that unlike Sanford, or his advisors, she has remarkable insight into what is happening to her husband as a result of his affair.

She seems to understand that once his feelings subside, as they most certainly will with time, Sanford will be able to devote himself wholeheartedly to the business of regaining her trust and rebuilding their marriage.

Despite the hurt, humiliation and heartbreak Jenny Sanford has undoubtedly experienced as a result of her husband’s behavior, she is willing to forgive him when he comes to his senses and allow him to make amends and begin the hard work of getting his marriage back on track.

Jenny Sanford is to be commended for serving as a role model to betrayed wives everywhere. She has shown the world how a wife with a cheating husband can lay the groundwork for saving her marriage without sacrificing her dignity and self respect. It’s interesting to note that Gov. Sanford’s affair differs from that of the usual cheating politician. From the e-mail exchange between Sanford and his mistress, it’s obvious clear that this was no mere sexual fling. Sanford was clearly a man in love. This was a deep emotional bond that developed over a period of several years.

What it Will Take to Make the Sanford Marriage Work

Sanford’s wife, Jenny has expressed her willingness to forgive her husband, and I sincerely wish them both well. They have a long, arduous task ahead. An extramarital affair like Mark Sanford’s which involves a dual sexual / emotional bond is far more difficult to recover from than an affair based primarily on sex. Jon and Kate – Why We Cared So Much About Their Fate

For weeks, Jon and Kate were objects of intense interest.

They graced the covers of numerous tabloids and entertainment magazines.

To satisfy the public’s curiosity about their dual allegations of infidelity, TV and radio shows, newspapers, magazines, and websites tracked this couple’s every move.

There probably wasn’t a media outlet in the country that didn’t run at least one story about Jon and Kate, or make mention of their TV reality show.

As infidelity rumors escalated, we followed everything Jon and Kate said and did - together, individually, or with someone else.

Then we blogged about them, tweeted about them, and discussed them in cyberspace.

Enticed by rumors of infidelity, almost 10 million people watched the season’s premiere of Jon and Kate Plus 8, to see what all the fuss was about. Many were people who previously had no interest in the show.

Fans posted comments online. As people chose sides, arguments ensued. People became personally involved.

The Announcement Didn’t Stem the Tide of Interest in Jon and Kate

When TLC told us that Jon and Kate had a life-changing announcement to make, everyone, from celebrities and talk show hosts, to the guy next door had a theory as to what that announcement would be.

By now, we all know that Jon and Kate have decided to separate. Following a brief hiatus, the show will continue. But the couple has filed for divorce. The children will to live on the family’s 24 acre estate. Their parents will take turns living with them in the house.

But the story isn’t over because fans and non-fans alike continue to speculate about Jon and Kate. Millions of people are still intent on watching this drama unfold.

Has anyone bothered to question why?

Just why are we so concerned about the fate of Jon and Kate? Why do we still care?

Why the Sudden Interest in Jon & Kate Plus 8?

Although this is the 5th season for the TLC’ Network’s reality show about this couple and their 8 children, it wasn’t until rumors of infidelity surfaced that Jon and Kate became household names.

These pseudo-celebrities owe their new-found fame, and the public’s sudden the interest in their affairs (no pun intended) to the accusations of infidelity on both their parts.

Infidelity as a Spectator Sport

As an infidelity expert , frequently called on by the media to comment on celebrity infidelity, high profile infidelity court cases, and infidelity breaking news, I can personally attest to the public’s consuming interest in all things infidelity – especially if the rich and famous are involved.
When someone in the public eye cheats on his or her mate, or is even rumored to be having an affair, the public wants to know every detail as the drama unfolds.

Infidelity has become the new spectator sport.

Why Infidelity Piques Our Interest

What is it about infidelity that holds our fascination? For one thing, it’s a topic that almost everyone can relate to in some way. Infidelity crosses all boundaries. It affects everyone, regardless of race, religion, social status, age, income level, or educational background.
Who among us doesn’t have at least one friend, relative, or co-worker who is cheating, or has been cheated on? Most of us have been victims of infidelity ourselves.

A USA Today/Gallup poll reported that 54% of Americans said they knew someone with a cheating spouse. If you factor in unmarried people in committed relationships who are cheating on their mates, that percentage jumps even higher.

Some form of infidelity (physical, emotional, online, female, same-sex, workplace) affects 80% of all marriages and committed relationships today.

Infidelity Entertains Us, But There Are Lessons to Be Learned

Infidelity has become a form of entertainment. It’s a recurring theme in soap operas, talk shows, movies, and novels, just to name a few.

But apart from the entertainment value of infidelity, there are lessons to be learned. Public accounts of infidelity can provide valuable insight for others who are struggling with infidelity issues of their own.

Celebrity infidelity captures the attention of everyone involved - the cheater, the infidelity victim, the Other Woman/ Other Man, and any friends, co-workers or relatives who know of, or who are affected by the affair. It’s not just idle curiosity. People are are seeking information, answers, solutions, advice that they can apply to their own personal situation.

How Infidelity Gave Jon and Kate Their Highest Ratings Ever

The media circus surrounding Jon and Kate Gosselin is a perfect example of how the mere hint of infidelity can boost the ratings of a TV show, and make even pseudo-celebrities an object of public interest for weeks on end.

The stars of the TLC Network’s reality show, Jon and Kate Plus 8, have recently been the subjects of much speculation, mainly because of rumors of infidelity.

Jon is rumored to be cheating on Kate with 23-year-old schoolteacher, Deanna Hummel.
Kate is rumored to be cheating on Jon with Steven Nield, the family's bodyguard.

These dual allegations of infidelity led to the reality TV show Jon and Kate Plus 8 getting its highest ratings ever.

Even people who previously had no interest in the show, tuned in to watch the season’s premiere, resulting in an estimated 9.8 million viewers – the highest numbers ever in the history of the TLC Network.

I attribute all this interest in Jon and Kate to the fact that infidelity has become the new spectator sport.

As an infidelity expert frequently called on by the media to comment on celebrity infidelity, high profile infidelity court cases, and infidelity breaking news, I can personally attest to the public’s voracious appetite for anything related to infidelity, cheating spouses, and extramarital affairs – especially if the rich and famous, or someone in the public eye is involved.

Adding an infidelity angle almost guarantees an increase in viewers, listeners, or readers – which may be why some people suspect the that Jon and Kate infidelity rumors may be a publicity stunt.

What the TLC Network Should Do to Save the Show

Several sources report that the ratings for Jon and Kate Plus 8 are starting to drop. According to one source, the number of viewers dropped approximately 40% to 5.8 million, then to 4.3 million for the last episode.

The smart thing for TLC to do would be to capitalize on all the speculation about whether or not the Gosselin’s marriage will survive by bringing in a marriage and family counselor to work with Jon and Kate.

After all, Jon and Kate Plus 8 is a reality TV show. Why not let the viewers see the reality of how counseling can help a couple get their troubled marriage back on track?

By actively doing something visible to help Jon and Kate solve their marriage problems, TLC could put a positive spin on things and offset the criticism they’re receiving from viewers who blame TLC for couple’s current state of affairs. (No pun intended)

Of course, this will only work if both Jon and Kate agree to fully cooperate.

Personally, I think the TLC Network has a responsibility to try to help this couple save their marriage. But they’ll need to act quickly.

Because if the rumors are true that the Gosselins did not spend their 10th anniversary together last week, it may already be too late for Jon and Kate.

Go or Stay? Should You Give a Cheater a Second Chance?

What should a couple do if one spouse has had an extramarital affair? Should they stay together for the sake of the children? Or should they terminate the marriage and go their separate ways.
It depends on the circumstances of the infidelity and the attitude of the spouse who had the affair.

On Elizabeth Edwards’ Book: Infidelity Expert Comments on Resilience

In my interview with Cindy Hsu of WCBS – TV last week, I mentioned that I was pleased to learn about the imminent release of Elizabeth Edward’s book, Resilience because it will provide a seldom seem glimpse of the hurt, heartbreak, the humiliation a woman experiences in in learning about and trying to come to terms with her husband’s extramarital affair.

An Intimate Look at the Betrayed Wife Has to Say

All too often when we hear or read about cases of high profile infidelity, it’s all about the cheater -- who he is, why he did it, how he got caught, what it will mean to his career. The betrayed wife usually suffers in silence, rarely do we get to hear her story. Hopefully, Elizabeth Edwards’ memoir will change all that.

The book was to have been embargoed until its publication date, but the New York Daily News jumped the gun. Below are my comments on three controversial excerpts from Resilience that have been leaked to the public thus far.

Elizabeth Edwards Vomited When Her Husband Confessed His Affair

In recounting her reaction when John Edwards confessed his affair to her, Elizabeth said, "I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up." Though it’s not often written or spoken about, it’s well-documented that infidelity victims experience physical reactions such as nausea, diarrhea, gastro-intestinal disturbances, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, headaches, loss of appetite, insomnia – just to name a few.

As a result of the trauma of infidelity, many betrayed spouses also experience PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) symptoms such as depression, anxiety, raging anger, intense shame, guilt, hyper-vigilance, flashbacks, nightmares, and more. Many marriage and family counselors are now using trauma-based therapies in treating victims of infidelity.

Elizabeth Edwards Does Not Mention Her Husband’s Mistress by Name

It has been widely reported that although Elizabeth Edwards talks about her husband’s mistress in the book, she does not actually mention his mistress by name. I’ve been researching infidelity for the past 15 years, and I can tell you that there’s nothing unusual about this. In fact, I applaud Elizabeth Edwards’ refusal to refer to her husband’s mistress by name.

Refusing to acknowledge the Other Woman by name is the recommended course of action for any woman who is trying to reconcile with her cheating mate. Once the affair has been brought out into the open and thoroughly discussed between the two parties involved, there is nothing to be gained by focusing on the Other Woman. To refer to her by name or bring her up name up in every conversation is to make her a part of their life and give her more importance than she deserves. The best approach in trying to repair a marriage, is to ignore the mistress, and carry on as if she doesn’t exist.

John Edwards Did Not Tell Elizabeth the Whole Truth About His Affair

Even when Edwards confessed to his wife, he lied about the affair, claiming it had only happened one time. . In his original version of what happened, he left out most of the truth. Elizabeth Edwards writes, “It turned out that a single time was not all it was.” If and when a cheating husband finally confesses to his wife, he’s likely to conceal many of the facts surrounding the affair. It’s not uncommon for a cheating spouse to continue to lie about the affair until presented with irrefutable proof.

Why do lie? Some cheaters lie in a misguided attempt to spare the betrayed spouse’s feelings. Others lie because they feel their spouses are too trusting or too naïve to ever find out the truth. Still other cheaters lie because they feel they are clever enough to continue the affair behind the betrayed spouses back. It does not bode well if the cheater continues to lie about certain aspects of the affair. A betrayed wife should have some method of confirming whether or nor what she has been told is really true. A reverse phone number search or reverse e-mail search, or a background check on the mistress can prove valuable in uncovering the real truth.

An article about the rising rates of infidelity among newlyweds in the latest issue of Women’s Health Magazine carries a quote by me on one of the reasons for the increase in infidelity among newlywed couples: In many instances they’re trying to recapture the feelings or romance, the excitement, and the passion they felt when they were dating. Many of them look outside their marriage for these feelings, if they can’t resurrect them with their marriage mate.

But that reason is way down on the list of reasons why married men and married women cheat on their mates.

Below are the top 10 reasons cheating husbands and cheating wives use to justify their extramarital affairs. You will notice, as you compare the two lists, you will see that for cheating man, sex is the primary motivating factor. While for cheating women, the key factors are marital dissatisfaction and / or unmet emotional needs.

Top 10 Reasons Why Men Cheat

• more sex - the desire for a more active sex life
• sexual variety - the desire for different types of sex or a particular sex act
• opportunistic sex – he’s presented with an opportunity to have sex without getting caught
• to satisfy his sexual curiosity about what it would be like to have sex with a particular person
• to reaffirm his sexuality
• a feeling of entitlement (the belief that it’s a man’s prerogative to cheat)
• the “thrill of the chase”
• ego embellishment - the desire to feel important or special
• peer pressure
• sexual addiction

Top 10 Reasons Why Women Cheat

• to fulfill an unmet need for emotional intimacy or a desire close emotional bond
• dissatisfaction with her mate
• dissatisfaction with her marriage or relationship
• a desire for male attention
• reaffirmation of her desirability as a woman
• to re-capture the feelings of romance or passion
• a desire to feel “special”
• boredom or loneliness
• feelings of neglect or being taken for granted
• sexual excitement

The Bottom Line on Why Men and Women Cheat

Men tend to cheat largely for sexual reasons, while women cheat for emotional reasons. There are several studies on infidelity that bear that out. One study, in particular, found that 75% to 80% of the men who admitted to having extramarital affairs said that sex was the primary reason. Only 20% of the women who were having extramarital affairs said they cheated on their spouses for purely sexual reasons.

Of course, the reasons above are not the only reasons married men and women cheat on their mates. There are other reasons as well. But these were the reasons most frequently given by cheating husbands and cheating wives who were willing to discuss why they were having an extramarital affair.

Most Cheaters Never Get Caught

Studies indicate that most infidelity goes undetected. The majority of cheating spouses never get caught. In one study, 70% of married women and 54% of married men had no idea their spouse was having an extramarital affair. Another study found that 60% of the cheating spouses said their partner did not know about their affair.

But even undetected infidelity can take its toll on a marriage. So it’s to your advantage to familiarize yourself with the signs of infidelity. Knowing what to look for is the key. If more husbands and wives knew how to spot the signs of infidelity, more marriages could be saved. Early intervention can keep a budding affair from blossoming into a full blown romance. Early intervention can also prevent an affair already in progress from reaching the point of no return.”

2. Receipts for the purchase of 2 identical gifts. (If he bought 2 heart-shaped diamond pendants and you got one, who did he give the other one to?)

3. Receipts or credit card statements for gifts like candy, flowers, jewelry, or lingerie that you didn´t personally receive. (Who got $175 worth of lingerie from Victoria’s Secret?)

4. Sales receipts, charge slips or credit card statements for gifts that don´t correspond with the gift he gave you. (If you got flowers and candy, who did he give jewelry to?

5. A thank you note or e-mail to or from your spouse for a Valentine´s Day gift you know nothing about.

Cheating Valentines Go Missing in Action on "Mistress Day"

A cheating husband or boyfriend will usually make every effort to personally deliver his mistress’s Valentine’s Day gift.

A cheating wife or girlfriend will usually rearrange her schedule so she can personally receive her secret lover’s Valentine’s Day gift.

Since most cheating men usually reserve Valentine’s Day for their wife or main girlfriend, the rendezvous with the Other Woman will usually take place February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day – the day that’s referred to as unofficial Mistress Day.

Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year. Most cheating men would rather not risk the wrath of their mistress by making her wait until Monday to receive her Valentine’s Day gift.

That’s what makes unofficial Mistress Day the ideal time to catch a cheating mate.

Missing in Action on Mistress Day

Be very suspicious if your spouse or significant other goes missing for an extended period of today. Be equally suspicious if your mate concocts lame, or trumped up excuses to go somewhere without you this evening, or do something that doesn’t involve you.

How Valentine’s Day Flowers Can Expose a Cheating Mate

But many of the flowers bought for Valentine’s Day will be sent or received by cheating Valentines, and will give those cheating spouses and lovers away.

Cliff’s Cheating Valentine Story

Cliff stopped by his wife Kate’s job to take her out for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner after work. While Cliff was waiting downstairs in the lobby for Kate to come down, two of Kate’s co-workers who knew him stopped to compliment him on the beautiful flowers he sent Kate for Valentine’s Day. One woman raved on and on about how she’d never seen such an unusual bouquet and asked Cliff which florist he used. When she saw the expression on Cliff’s face, she realized too late that she and her co-worker had made a terrible mistake. Cliff hadn’t sent Kate any flowers for Valentine’s Day. The flowers were from someone else.

For Men with a Cheating Girlfriend or Cheating Wife

Flowers Sent to Her Job

Men, if your wife or girlfriend receives Valentine’s Day flowers from someone other than you, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that you’re not her only Valentine -- especially if the flowers are sent to her workplace instead of her home. If they weren’t sent by a male family member like her father, her son or her favorite nephew, then she’s got some explaining to do.

Valentine’s Day - the Ideal Time to Catch a Cheating Mate

Most people don’t associate infidelity with Valentine’s Day. In addition to being the most romantic time of the year, Valentine Season (February 13, 14, and 15) is the time period when infidelity and extramarital affairs reach a peak.

That’s one of the reasons why I conduct a Valentine’s Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign each year – to let people know that Valentine’s Day is the best time to catch a cheating mate.

The Great Valentine’s Gift Exchange

The National Retail Federation estimates that approximately $14.7 billion will be spent for Valentine’s Day this year, compared with the $17 billion spent last year.

A significant amount of that money will be spent by cheaters buying cards, flowers, candy, jewelry, lingerie and other Valentine’s Day gifts for the people they’re cheating with.

On or around Valentine’s Day, cheaters everywhere will either be giving gifts to, or receiving gifts from their secret lovers. You can use this fact to your advantage if you suspect infidelity, or if you already know you have a cheating mate. This is the ideal time to catch the cheater with the Other Woman / Other Man, or to get tangible proof of the affair.

How to Catch a Cheating Spouse or Lover on New Year’s Eve

The key to catching a cheating spouse or lover on New Year’s Eve is to observe his or her behavior close to midnight on New Year’s Eve, or first thing on New Year’s Day.

Making Contact with the Other Woman or Other Man

Regardless of whether you and the cheater are out partying, or quietly bringing in the New Year together at home, he or she will usually attempt to contact the person they’re cheating with to wish them a Happy New Year. Cheating spouses and lovers can be amazingly resourceful in coming up with excuses to get away from you long enough to make a phone call, send an e-mail or text message, or even make a quick visit if the Other Woman or Other Man lives nearby. Stay alert and you may even catch the cheater in the act.

Unusual or Suspicious Behavior

Be suspicious of any unexplained absences, whispered conversations, or sudden errands that your spouse or lover has to run shortly before or after midnight on New Year’s Eve.

If for some reason the cheater is unable to contact his or her lover on New Year’s Eve, they’ll do so at the first opportunity on New Year’s Day.

Cell Phone Clues

If you can get access to the cheater’s cell phone (or the cell phone bills with their December and January calls) you may be able to find some valuable telltale signs. 8 Gift-related Signs of Cheating that Show Up at Christmastime

If you suspect your spouse or significant other of cheating on you, Christmas is a good time to confirm what you suspect. A cheater can be exposed by the Christmas gift he or she gives, or by the gift he or she receives.If you know what to look for before or shortly after Christmas, you can find tangible evidence of an affair. Be alert for the following gift-related telltale signs:

1. A suspicious amount of money withdrawn from a bank account.
If a substantial sum of money is withdrawn from one of your joint bank accounts without your knowledge or consent, an alarm should go off in your head. Especially if the missing funds exceed the amount of money your spouse or significant other usually spends at Christmas time.

2. Unusual or unexplained ATM withdrawals.
Many cheating men or women husbands think they can escape detection if they pay for their lover’s gift with cash instead of a credit or debit card. But even cash has to come from somewhere. People tend to forget that ATM transactions also leave a paper trail. The information on those ATM withdrawal slips may hold important clues. Look closely at the date, time, and amount of money indicated on the slip. Also take note of the location of the ATM machine from which the money was withdrawn.

3. Credit card statements that show unusual charges made at jewelry stores, boutiques, or at men’s or women’s specialty stores.
Are there charges on your credit card statement for gift items like lingerie from Victoria's Secret, or jewelry from Tiffany's? If you, or another female in the family didn’t receive these gifts for Christmas, who did he give them to? Does her credit card statement show purchases from expensive men’s clothing stores? Who did she buy these items for, if she didn’t give them to you?

4. Receipts for gift items that you didn't personally receive.
The same thing applies to actual store receipts. If you didn't get the items in question, who were they given to? If you’ve ruled out other members of the family, someone has some explaining to do?

5. Duplicate gifts.
A receipt for the purchase of two identical gifts is a dead giveaway, as are actual duplicate gifts themselves. But many cheaters try to simplify their Christmas shopping by purchasing identical gifts for their lover and their spouse. Find out who the other gift is for.

6. Giving or receiving Christmas gifts of a personal nature to or from a member of the opposite sex.
Certain gifts go far beyond what someone would normally give a person who's merely a casual friend. Intimate apparel, or items of clothing that require intimate knowledge of a person's measurements or size. For example – someone other than a family member gives your husband or boyfriend silk boxer shorts, or a dress shirt that requires knowledge of his neck and sleeve size. Or your wife receives lingerie, undergarments or sleepwear, from a male friend.

7. Giving or receiving a disproportionately expensive Christmas gift from someone of the opposite sex.
There are limits to the amount of money a person would normally spend on a gift for a business acquaintance or a casual friend. If someone other than you gives your wife a fur coat, or diamond earrings, or your husband receives golf clubs or a laptop computer -- there's more to that relationship than meets the eye. If they try to pass off this gift as an item they purchased for themselves, ask to see the credit card statement or sales receipt.

8. The Case of the Disappearing Gift.
This is one of the most common scenarios I hear about at Christmastime. A hidden gift is discovered and the person who found it assumes it’s for him or her. They say nothing about their discovery, so as not to spoil the surprise. But Christmas comes and goes, the gift disappears, and it isn’t given to them. Now they’re left wondering who the mystery gift was given to.

Your Marriage or Relationship May Be at Stake

These gift-related telltale signs are not ironclad indications of infidelity. But if your spouse or significant other has given you reason to suspect they’re having an affair, the gift-related signs you find at Christmastime can give you valuable clues about what’s going on. Suspicious or unusual behavior involving the giving or receiving of Christmas gifts may help you fill in the blanks. So don’t be so quick to dismiss these things as being insignificant. At the very least, these telltale signs will alert you to the possibility that your marriage or relationship may be at stake.

There Will Also Be Other Signs

Realize that any gift-related signs you find during the Christmas season are merely the tip of the infidelity iceberg. Signs of infidelity never appear in isolation. Where there’s one sign, there are usually dozens of collaborating signs just waiting to be found. Since most of them will be subtle, knowing what to look for is the key.

Proof that Office Christmas Parties Breed Workplace Affairs

Office Christmas parties lead to workplace affairs.

That’s why every December, as part of my annual Christmas Infidelity Awareness Campaign, I urge men and women to accompany their spouses and significant others to the office Christmas party at their job. Your presence there acts as a deterrent to workplace affairs.

When I talk about how office Christmas parties have become breeding grounds for workplace affairs, some people take me seriously and follow my advice. It usually those who have been victims of workplace infidelity in the past.

But others tend to think I’m either making things up, exaggerating, or blowing things out of proportion.

Statistics on Office Christmas Parties and Workplace Affairs

Let me assure you that there are dozens of infidelity studies, polls and surveys which support that claim.

I’ve listed a few of them below:

● In a survey conducted by Men's Health magazine, 44% of the males said they'd had an affair with a co-worker at a holiday office party at least once in their life.

● In a survey by Trojan Condoms, 49% of office workers said they’d be willing to have sex with a fellow employee at the Christmas party if the opportunity presented itself.

● Almost 33% of those in the Trojan survey said they’d previously had sex with a colleague during or after an office Christmas party.

● A survey conducted by Canon revealed that 1/3 of the workers either kissed a co-worker, or ended-up going home with them after the company Christmas party.

● 64% of the office workers in the OfficeSMART survey said they personally knew of affairs that started at their office Christmas party.

● 1 out of every 4 people in the CareerOne.com.au office romance survey said they hooked up with someone at the office Christmas party.

● 41% of the 18-30 year old office workers in another study admitted getting together with a co-worker at their annual Christmas party. 13% said they’d actually had sex at the event, but only 6% of them got caught.

● 1 out of 5 women in the WorldWIT survey became romantically involved with a colleague at an office party.

● 33% of them admitted to having an affair following their office party fling, and a year or more later, 13% of them were still romantically involved.

● A London survey found that 1 in 10 respondents started a relationship at the company Christmas party. 25% of those questioned said that’s how they met their future spouse.

These are just a few of the many studies and surveys on office Christmas parties, sexual behavior and workplace affairs. Other studies show similar results.

Be There to Safeguard Your Marriage or Relationship

If your spouse or significant other’s company is having an annual Christmas party this year and guests are invited, make sure you attend with your mate. Just being there will act as a deterrent to workplace affairs.

If you suspect that your spouse or significant other is already involved in a workplace affair, go with them to their office Christmas party and you’ll find out the truth. Office Christmas parties have a way of exposing workplace affairs. If your spouse or significant other is romantically involved with someone they work with, their behavior or body language will give them away. But knowing what to look for is the key.
